Quadriplegia - I but light / paralysis of arms and legs
Rabies - C for A and I for SA / virus transmitted by animals, can be fatal
Raynaud’s Syndrome - I / spasm in fingers, toes, nose, ears, lips and tongue
Recent Injury - LC for at least 72 hours after injury
Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy - LC for A and I for SA / causes pain following injury, affects the limbs
Renal Dialysis - C / mechanical kidney to remove substances from the blood
Renal Failure - C / failure of kidney
Retroverted Hip - I / increased external rotation of the hip
Rheumatoid Arthritis - C for A and I for SA / autoimmune disease
Ring Worm - LC / contagious, fungal disease
Ringing Sensation - I but no mast movements / if it is muscle related, it could be the stapedius
Rotator Cuff Tear - I for SA and LC for A / tear in one or all of the SITS muscles
Scapula Winging - I / weakness in the serratus anterior
Scar Tissue - LC for A and I for SA / growth of new tissue after injury
Sciatica - I for muscle / inflammation of sciatic nerve
Scleroderma - I if sensation / fibrosis and vascular abnormalities
Scoliosis - I but no intense R.O.M. / abnormal curve of the spine
Seborrhea - LC / disease of the sebaceous glands, cradle cap, increased oily secretions
Senile Lentigo - I / age spots
Separation - LC for A and I for SA / joints are pulled or stretched, bone is not displaced
Septic Arthritis - C until infection is gone / infection in joint
Skin Pallor - I / lack of color of the skin
Sickle Cell Anemia - C for A and I for SA / red blood cell have a different shape
Sinusitis - C for A and I for SA and chronic / inflammation of the sinus cavity
Shin Splints - I for only mild cases / anterior or posterior tibialis and maybe a hairline fracture
Spasms (Cramps) - LC for A and I for SA and I for long term / involuntary contractions
Spasticity - LC for intense ROM / stiffness
Spina Bifida - LC / lack of development in the lumbar spine
Spinal Cord Injury - I as long as sensation / some or all fibers in spinal cord have been damaged
Spondylolisthesis - I / one lumbar vertebra is anterior of rest of spine
Spondylosis - LC for A and I for SA / osteoarthritis of spine
Spoon Nails - LC / severe fungus, concaved or dug out nails
Sprain - I for SA / injured ligaments
Sprengel’s Deformity - I / partially undescended scapula
Strains - I / injured muscle
Striae - LC for deep pressure / stretch marks
Stroke (CVA) - I after recovery / blood clot to the brain
Substance Abuse - I but C for intoxicated / addiction to drugs or alcohol
Swan Neck Deformity - LC for A and I for SA / proximal interphalangeal joint is hyper-extended and the distal interphalangeal joint is flexed, usually arthritis causes it, in the fingers
