Gait- Walking pattern.
Gall Bladder Disease-Infection or inflammation in the pear-shaped sac located on the visceral surface of the right lobe of the liver.
General relaxation-Physiological state characterized by decreases in heart rate, oxygen consumption, respiration, and skeletal muscular activity and by increases in skin resistance and alpha brain waves; sometimes called relaxation response.
Genetics-The scientific study of the process of biological inheritance. Its findings explain how and why certain traits such as hair color or blood types run in families.
Genital warts-A viral skin tumor found on moist skin of the reproductive organs. The warts are caused by viruses belonging to the family of human papilloma viruses and transmitted through sexual contact.
Genu-Refers to the knee.
Genu Recurvatum-Hyperextension of the knee joint.
Genu Valgus-A condition where the knees are close together and the feet are apart, knock-knee.
Genu Varus-A condition where the knees are apart and the feet are close together, bow-legged.
Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM)-Diabetes that develops during pregnancy, usually noticed between the 24TH and the 28TH weeks of pregnancy.
Glucose-A simple sugar; the form in which all carbohydrates are used as the body's principal energy source.
Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT)-A test used for diagnosing diabetes. Glucose (blood sugar) is measured in intervals after a glucose-rich meal is ingested.
Glycogen-The storage form of glucose found in the liver and muscles.
Goiter-An enlargement of the thyroid gland.
Golgi Tendon-Receptors in the tendon that sense tension.
Golgi Tendon Organ (GTO)-A sensory receptor that responds to the tension or stretching of the tendon and
relaysimpulses to the central nervous system. When stimulated, the GTO inhibits or relaxes the entire muscle group to protect against excessive force and injury.
Gout-A metabolic disease that is a form of acute arthritis, marked by joint inflammation and an abnormally increased level of uric acid in the blood. It can be genetic or caused by a high intake of foods with purines (e.g. organ meats, alcohol).
Gross anatomy-Large easily observed organs and organ systems.
Growth Hormone-A hormone that promotes cell division; in adults it is implicated in the repair and regeneration of tissue.
